I should never have bought...
A response to The Time's article -
A pleasing appearance is very important; appearance is what initially attracts you to a product. However, I am becoming increasingly aware that everyone can readily think of at least one product that hasn’t conformed to its proposed function. Apple’s iPod is the world’s most famous, best selling mp3 player; since April 2007, over 110million models have been sold. The iPod advertisements are influential, conformist and attractive, symbolising the iPod as a fashion accessory with the designer white ear buds (headphones); a must have for the modern person.
As a late Christmas present I was given a second generation £120 iPod nano, with such a brilliant image, aesthetically pleasing interface and high price range, I expected the product to function well. Though, upon taking it home, setting up the iTunes software and transferring my songs, the screen crashed.
Several attempts to revive the frozen appearance failed. Repetitive battery charging two days later did work, but I was not impressed. Soon, the iPod crashed again, refusing to allow me to scroll through my songs. Even the chain store it was purchased from would not allow me to return or replace the product; too many complaints had been made already!
The iPod continued to let me down but I persevered.

Roughly four months after its purchase date, the iPod failure calmed down. Since then there is only the occasional blip when the songs are ‘shuffled’ too fast.
I love the iPod design but it does not function as well as it should. The slim line ear buds break too easily, the iPod casing quickly scratches and without investing more money into an iPod ‘protective sock’ the screen needs frequent cleaning! So until Apple updates its function a little bit more, invest in some nice headphones and a cheap efficient memory stick.
